MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Two former NFL players with local ties have been selected as semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026.
Former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers has made the list in his first year of eligibility.
Rivers serves as head coach of St. Michael Catholic School’s football team and is still coaching in the high school football playoffs.
Rivers ranks seventh all time with 63,440 yards passing in a career spent mostly with the Chargers. He also played for the Indianapolis Colts.
During his career which ran from 2004-2019, he made eight Pro Bowls and won the 2013 AP Comeback Player of the Year.
FOX10 has reached out to Rivers for comment on the honor but have yet to hear back.
Former offensive tackle Willie Anderson has also been named a semifinalist.
An alum of Vigor High School and an Auburn standout, Anderson played with the Bengals and the Ravens during an NFL career that spanned from 1996-2007.
During that time, Anderson earned four Pro Bowl nods and a reputation as one of the best right tackles of his era.
