The league cited Moehrig for unsportsmanlike conduct, stating his action violated Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which prohibits striking an opponent.
Moehrig has the right to appeal the decision under the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. The appeal will be heard and decided by one of the jointly appointed hearing officers: Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson.
If the suspension is upheld, Moehrig will miss the Panthers’ game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, November 30. He would be eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, December 1.
Moehrig is a key player for the Panthers, ranking second on the team in tackles, so his absence could have a significant impact on the defense.
