Liverpool’s form in the Premier League has been unacceptable but there is reason for them to be optimistic in the Champions League, and having seen off Real Madrid last time out, they host PSV Eindhoven at Anfield on matchday five.

The Reds and the Dutch outfit go head-to-head tonight at 20:00 UK time with the hosts looking to secure all three points, and subject to other results across Europe, break into the top eight of the standings.

Having said that, here is a look at Liverpool’s potential starting eleven for the game.

Goalkeeper – Alisson Becker could mark his return to the Champions League after returning from injury against PSV Eindhoven.

Defenders – Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk are expected to remain as the centre backs for the Reds, while Conor Bradley’s injury means Curtis Jones might be employed at right back. Meanwhile, Andy Robertson could come in at left back, possibly replacing Milos Kerkez from the Nottingham Forest loss.

Ekitike to replace Isak

Midfielders – Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch have done a great job together in midfield, and were especially good against Real Madrid. As a result, both of them are expected to remain in the double pivot for Liverpool whereas Dominik Szoboszlai could be preferred as the attacking midfielder ahead of Florian Wirtz.

Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo are also expected to remain in the team on the right and left wings, respectively.

Forward – £79 million summer signing Hugo Ekitike, who is playing a lot better than Alexander Isak, could return to lead the line for Liverpool ahead of the Swedish international.

Here is a look at the potential Liverpool team on paper.
