There is even talk that Liverpool could sign a striker, despite already having Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak on their books.
In turn, we could easily see the Reds splash out another £100m-plus in the near future, and FSG would no doubt have loved a fresh cash injection to help fund those deals.
Liverpool given fresh Harvey Elliott transfer update
But it doesn’t look as though Harvey Elliott’s transfer to Aston Villa will go ahead.

Villa will pay £35m for Elliott if he makes 10 appearances under Unai Emery this season.
However, GiveMeSport are now reporting that the Midlands outfit are aiming to return the midfielder to Anfield in January.
They say the chances of a permanent deal being completed for Elliott look non-existent.

The 22-year-old has notched five appearances for Aston Villa to date, but was completely left out of the matchday squad when they beat Leeds United this past weekend.

Should the 22-year-old now return to Anfield in the coming months, he must remain there until at least the summer.
Elliott has already played for two clubs in 2025/26, featuring for Liverpool in the Community Shield and off the bench against Newcastle United in the Premier League before departing for Villa.
A player cannot compete for more than two teams in a single campaign, making another loan exit in January impossible.

Elliott did make 18 appearances in the English top-flight last term, but those outings totalled just 360 minutes of action.
There may be a chance he garners more playing time while Mohamed Salah is away at the AFCON.
However, in reality, it appears that his development will largely be put on hold until he can find a permanent solution to his future in the summer.
