Ex-Wycombe man Eberechi Eze joins exclusive club following Premier League hat-trick

The ex-Chairboy, who played for the Adams Park side in the first half of the 2017/18 season when Wanderers were in League Two, scored his third, fourth and fifth goals of the campaign in all competitions, as the Gunners ran out 4-1 winners against Tottenham Hotspur on November 26.

His personal milestone has now put him on a list with just three other footballers, as he became only the fourth person to score a hat-trick in the fixture.

The first score to achieve the feat was Arsenal’s Ted Drake in October 1934, when the Gunners won 5-1.

You would have to wait 27 years before the second hat-trick in the North London Derby was scored, as Spurs’ Terry Dyson scored three times against the Gooners in a 4-3 victory at White Hart Lane in August 1961.

At the time of writing, he is the only Tottenham player to score a trio versus Arsenal in a competitive match.

Before Eze’s moment of glory last Sunday, the most recent hat-trick to have been scored in this famous fixture was in December 1978.

Arsenal’s Alan Sunderland bagged three goals in a 5-0 away thumping for the Gunners at White Hart Lane, just two days before Christmas Day.

Speaking on Eze’s attitude, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “Things happen for a reason.

“After international duty, he had two days off, and after one day, he wanted to train.

“He wanted to improve, and he wanted to do extra practice, and he was asking me questions about this and that.

“When a player has such a talent, and his desire is at that level, then these things happen. And he fully deserves it.

“I’m so happy for him, because since the day that he came, he brought something else to the team.

“So it’s a joy, it’s an aura that this team needed and hopefully it will give him a lot of confidence, to him and the team, that at any moment he can win us a game.”

Eze joined Wanderers in the summer of 2017 on loan from Queens Park Rangers, where he became an instant hit at Adams Park.

He scored five goals in 22 appearances in all competitions, which included two screamers against Cambridge United in October of that year.

Following his impressive form, Eze was recalled to QPR in January 2018, where he played 112 times and scored 20 goals, before joining Crystal Palace in the summer of 2020.

Across the next five years, ahead of his move to Arsenal in the summer, he made 169 appearances for the Eagles and bagged 40 goals.

One of which was the winning strike in the 2025 FA Cup Final against Manchester City, which secured the South London side its first-ever major trophy.

He also helped Palace win this year’s Community Shield against Liverpool in August.

His three strikes versus Tottenham was also the first hat-trick of his career.
