Chelsea are their closest challengers at the moment, with a date at Stamford Bridge next Sunday, in what could be a real Premier League six pointer at the top of the table.
During the Spurs victory, the first goal came from Leandro Trossard, before Eberechi Eze scored three goals in his first every North London derby, just months after he snubbed a move to Spurs in favour of his boyhood club Arsenal.
Merino hails “amazing” Arsenal star Eze
Eze’s midfield teammate Mikel Merino has been very impressive this season. He played up front against Spurs, in place of Viktor Gyokeres, who is dealing with an injury. The Spanish international was full of praise for Eze after his hat-trick against Spurs.
Merino told The Athletic: “He can dribble, he can pass the ball. He has one very good thing, we say in Spain: associating with each other. In Spain, we are born and we are raised with this talent of playing with each other, passing the ball and connecting.
“He is also mentally driven to passing the ball and sharing the game but at the same time he can dribble and is very strong. He can shoot and is really complete. An amazing signing.”
Eze joined in the summer for a fee of £68m, as he had a release clause at Crystal Palace. There was interest from Tottenham, but Eze chose a move to the Emirates instead. Based on his season so far, it seems to be a move that has paid off.
The England star has made 11 appearances in the Premier League since he joined from Palace in the summer, scoring four goals, and providing two assists.
