It's become crystal clear which player will leave Liverpool first in the January transfer window - opinion

Liverpool are planning to change up their frontline in the coming months despite already having a stacked attack.

It has been common knowledge for some time now that the Reds want to sign Antoine Semenyo in January.

A natural right winger with six goals and three assists in the Premier League this season, Semenyo will offer Arne Slot cover all across his frontline.

However, as well as it already looking likely that Liverpool will win the race for Semenyo, the Premier League champions could make yet another addition to their attack. This would further hamper the playing time of one star.

Who is your dream Liverpool January signing?

Liverpool could sign another striker in January, taking their forward options, including Semenyo, up to eight.

Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngomaha and Hugo Ekitike are all viable options off the left.

Alexander Isak, Ekitike, Gakpo and a potential new centre-forward would be the cover in the middle.

Mohamed Salah and Semenyo would then compete for a starting berth on the right, while a returning Harvey Elliott may also be an option on that flank.

As a result, it seems very clear that Federico Chiesa will fall even further down the pecking order on Merseyside and will need to be moved on.

Federico Chiesa already has Liverpool exit route

Chiesa is popular with Liverpool fans, but that has had little impact on his game time under Slot.

The Italian has played just 139 minutes of Premier League football this term, and it’s hard to see that figure increasing an awful lot in the second half of 2025/26 if two more forwards are brought to the club.

Finding a new team should not be that hard, however, as Italian clubs could move for Chiesa in the winter.

Fabrizio Romano shared an update on interest in the Liverpool winger recently.

He said: “I believe Italian clubs will be able to try again during the January window. The door was closed in the summer, by Chiesa and Liverpool, they wanted to continue together.”

It’s an unfortunate situation for Chiesa, who continues to impress in his limited cameos off the bench, but Slot clearly doesn’t view him as a key player even before fresh legs are brought in this January.
