Daniel Farke will need to lean on all of his squad’s strengths if Leeds United are to get results from the upcoming tests against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
One midfielder will already be absent for Saturday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium, with Farke outlining after the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa that Anton Stach will play no part due to concussion protocol procedures.
The summer signing landed awkwardly following an aerial challenge in the build up to Leeds’ opener and had to be withdrawn a short while later. There is a chance he misses the midweek clash at home to Chelsea too.
Ethan Ampadu is also at risk of sitting out the fixture should he get a yellow card against Man City. The captain is on four bookings with a fifth prompting a one-game suspension. This will be the case up until matchweek 19 as per Premier League rules.
One of these yellow cards, the first, came as a result kicking the ball away for Bournemouth’s stoppage-time free-kick - which ultimately ended in the Cherries scoring a last-gasp equaliser anyway.
Should Ampadu indeed be booked against City, and should Stach not pass concussion checks and be ruled out, then Leeds would have just three midfielders to use; Sean Longstaff, Ilia Gruev and Ao Tanaka.
Meanwhile, Jayden Bogle sits on three cautions, the latest for delaying the restart in Sunday’s defeat to Villa. All other teammates sit on two bookings or under.
