'Lost his head' - Micah Richards teased by Jamie Carragher for quitting CBS group chat

Not even Micah Richards is immune to the familiar feeling of being in too many group chats to the point it becomes overly consuming.

Or perhaps that was just the convenient excuse he provided when asked to explain why he exited the CBS group chat, even though Jamie Carragher seemed to insinuate otherwise.

Richards, Carragher and Thierry Henry were on duty as pundits for CBS Sports' Champions League coverage on Tuesday.

Once the matches had wrapped up, which included a stunning 3-0 win for Chelsea over Barcelona, attention shifted towards off-field matters as Carragher cheekily asked: "What about the group chat?"

Richards, sensing what was to come, replied: "Come on, come on."

After Carragher asked for an explanation, Richards supposedly came clean.

Why did Micah Richards leave the CBS Sports group chat?

"You know what, because I was in too many groups," Richards said.

"And there was all sorts of nonsense in the group, and it was boring me.

"That was all."

Being labelled 'boring' left Henry dumbfounded as he glanced back at Richards while Carragher hit back: "So your friends bore you?"

Richards, ever the jester on CBS Sports' coverage, said: "Well, I wouldn't call you friends... associates."

The former Manchester City defender's reply drew laughter from the panel, before host Kate Scott claimed Richards' group chat exit came on October 5.

Jamie Carragher hints at the real reason behind Micah Richards' exit

Sensing his opportunity to twist the knife further, Carragher said: "What was it when he lost his head? End of May? June?"

Richards remained coy on explaining the situation himself and asked Carragher to do the honours.

"I don't know," Carragher said.

"And you left the group in October. You must have had a long think about it."

Scott then questioned what the actual 'trigger' was for Richards to have suffered the supposed head loss.

Given the supposed timeline, perhaps it was Liverpool winning the Premier League title that sent Richards into a tizzy.

The Reds' title success would have been especially brutal for Richards given his boyhood club Arsenal and former employers City finished second and third respectively in the title race.

And Carragher, who made just shy of 740 appearances for Liverpool throughout his career, no doubt took his chance to rub his former employers' success in Richards' face.

However, those roles may be reversed come the end of the 2025/26 campaign given Liverpool sit 12th in the league after 12 games and are already 11 points behind Arsenal, who sit comfortably in first.
