‘I have to talk to him‘ — Hansi Flick vows internal talks with Barcelona captain following Stamford Bridge humiliation

FC Barcelona travelled to Stamford Bridge last night hoping to secure a famous win, but that hope came crashing down as the Catalan club [suffered a 3–0 drubbing by the west London side](https://semprebarca.com/torres-3-0-araujo-2-0-chelsea-3-0-fc-barcelona-player-ratings/).

One player who did not cover himself in glory was Ronald Araujo. Wearing the captain’s armband, he let his team down in the UEFA Champions League, not for the first time in recent history, following his debacles against PSG and Inter Milan in successive seasons.

After the game, Hansi Flick was asked about the Uruguayan’s actions and, as quoted by [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20251125/1002576057/flick-necesitamos-mas-agresivos-mas-fisicos-dinamicos.html), he said:

**“I have to talk to him, watch the clips, and analyse it. The second foul could have happened, but he shouldn’t have pulled the player down. These things happen in football.”**

Although Hansi Flick did not throw Ronald Araujo under the bus in front of the media, he would surely be disappointed with what the South American did last night. It is high time he started reining in his recklessness.

For a player wearing the captain’s armband at FC Barcelona, his performances in big Champions League games are simply not acceptable. Long gone are the days when Araujo looked like a beacon of reliability against the world’s top attackers.

He seems to have stopped progressing, and his development appears to have stalled. All this is resulting in a half-baked version of the Uruguayan that Barcelona are forced to trust. Let us wait and see how things play out for Araujo in the coming months.
