Liverpool are looking at the January transfer market as an opportunity to make some new signings, with three players lined up who could help improve the side after their early struggles.

Liverpool's early-season slump has turned into something of a crisis, as Arne Slot is searching for solutions to the main problems he faces within the squad. The Reds started out by winning their first five games of the Premier League season, but were far from convincing in doing so.

A sustained period of bad form in the league has seen six defeats in seven matches follow, causing plenty of concern surrounding the fanbase. That is despite Liverpool spending roughly £450m in the summer transfer window, with plenty of big-name signings brought in to bolster on a squad that were champions last season.

Things just haven't clicked for Slot so far, whether it's the backline looking more fragile than expected, the midfield not winning as many duels, or the forward line not quite finding their feet, the whole system looks like it needs some work.

While the side had spent big in the summer, it looks as though the hierarchy are willing to push the boat out even further in the January transfer window to try and fix the problems the team currently faces.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool have their eyes on three positions that could be strengthened to give them a better chance of competing this season.

It's claimed that a winger who can make an "immediate impact" is wanted, with Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo being heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the coming weeks.

The 25-year-old has been in electric form this season, having scored six goals and assisted three in 11 Premier League appearances, while his ability to score with both feet makes him a real threat for the opposition.

That's not all, though, as the report claims that a striker with "favourable market conditions" is also being eyed up for a switch in January.

It comes as both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak have struggled work in tandem so far, with Slot facing plenty of dilemmas over who should play and where they should play.

Alexander Isak comes on as a substitute for teammate Hugo Ekitike during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield.

Both Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike completed moved to Liverpool this summer and have been vying for the striker role.

Considering the fee paid for both, it may come as a slight surprise that another striker is being lined up, though it remains to be seen which options could be on the shortlist.

Isak has scored just once since joining Liverpool for £125m in the summer, with his fitness from a lack of pre-season cited as a clear issue. Meanwhile, Ekitike did hit the ground running, but having been in and out of the side, he currently has six goals to his name across all competitions.

The final position being eyed up, unsurprisingly, is at centre-back, with Marc Guehi still viewed as a key target heading into the January window.

Liverpool pursued a late move for Guehi in the summer, but they missed out as Crystal Palace held firm against letting their club captain leave in the final few hours of the market.

With his contract expiring in the summer, reigniting that interest in January makes some sense, not least considering the struggles the Reds face at the back.

Giovanni Leoni's ACL injury means there are a lack of options beyond Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate who can play there, presenting a clear issue.

Neither defender has been in the greatest of form either, having been left exposed to opposition attacks on plenty of occasions this season - though the lack of options has made it tough to rotate either of them out of the side.

In all, it means Liverpool are lining up another potentially huge transfer spend, as the club look to fix some of the issues that the manager currently faces.
