Bayern Munich director of football Max Eberl has played down any rumours linking Vincent Kompany with Manchester City.
[SportBILD have an interview with Eberl today.](https://sportbild.bild.de/) In that interview he is directly asked about interest in the Bayern Munich manager.
Kompany has surprised many with the work he’s done at Bayern since taking charge in 2024. He was very much a surprise appointment that summer after Bayern had approached several others, although [they’ve tried to change history since.](https://sportwitness.co.uk/completely-convinced-history-altered-over-snatching-burnley-manager/)
The decision to appoint him was widely questioned, particularly after Burnley’s disappointing relegation back to the Championship. Instead, Kompany has re-established Bayern as one of the leading sides in Europe.
He secured the Bundesliga title last season, including a record breaking 16-game winning streak across all competitions. They are back at the top of the Bundesliga table this season. And they are also top of the Champions League, league table after winning all of their games to date.
The sentiments about Kompany have changed as a result. In fact, according to SportBILD, Manchester City are ‘watching him very closely’. They remain on the lookout for Pep Guardiola’s replacement, as his contract expires in 2027.
Manchester City interest addressed
----------------------------------
Eberl has no concerns about Manchester City or any other clubs, though. In fact, he thinks such interest is only natural.
_“We see Vincent Kompany working every day – and seeing it up close is even more impressive than watching from the outside,”_ he said.
_“When a coach is successful at FC Bayern, he’s naturally also of interest to other clubs with very strong financial resources._
_“But Vinny senses that something is being built here, and he wants to be a part of it and help shape it. Furthermore, we’ll stick together if we ever hit a rough patch. He’s a perfect fit for FC Bayern.”_
