Everything you need to know about Jamie Carragher's row with Mo Salah
Jamie Carragher recently reignited his public feud with Mo Salah by criticising the star player's silence during Liverpool's current struggles. Carragher believes Salah, as a senior figure, needs to be more vocal and take responsibility publicly after disappointing defeats.
The criticism comes amid a significant crisis for Liverpool, who have suffered six defeats in their last seven games, signaling serious issues within the team. During this poor run of form, Salah himself has been largely ineffective, scoring only two goals.
Carragher pointed out that captain Virgil van Dijk is always the only player who speaks to the media after a loss. The pundit argued that other leaders, including Salah, should step up and address the team's predicament instead of relying solely on the captain.
The current tension is not isolated, as Carragher previously clashed with Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, back in 2022 over cryptic social media posts. At that time, Carragher publicly called out the agent for stirring up unnecessary speculation during ongoing contract negotiations.
Carragher had also previously labelled Salah as "selfish" for a poorly timed interview given two years ago about his contract status. This prior incident occurred just before crucial fixtures against Real Madrid and Manchester City, which the pundit felt was disruptive to the team.
The core of Carragher's latest criticism is the allegation that Salah only chooses to speak publicly when it benefits him personally. He stated he hears from the forward only when Salah wins 'Man of the Match' or when he is pushing for a new contract deal.
Virgil van Dijk has consistently fronted up to the media, even referring to Liverpool's current situation as a "mess" following their latest loss. Carragher stressed that while the captain is right to address the issues, the burden should be shared among the squad's leading figures.
Notably, the recent dispute is not related to a contract demand, as Salah signed a new deal toward the end of last season. This confirms Carragher's current concern is purely focused on the Egyptian star's leadership and public accountability during a difficult patch.
