The Cowboys take on the Chiefs in a Thanksgiving Day showdown.

There is no time for the Dallas Cowboys to celebrate an improbable comeback against the Philadelphia Eagles as the squad faces the Kansas City Chiefs on a short week for Thanksgiving. Dallas’ chances to challenge Patrick Mahomes may have just gotten a bit easier with the latest news, especially for the surging retooled Cowboys defense.

Kansas City is expected to be without one of the team’s Pro Bowlers for the Thanksgiving Day showdown at Dallas. The Chiefs are preparing to be without guard Trey Smith versus the Cowboys with the veteran in danger of missing multiple games.

“Chiefs Pro Bowl guard Trey Smith is dealing both high- and low-ankle sprains, sources say,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport detailed in a November 24, 2025, message on X. “Smith is expected to miss some time, including likely against the Cowboys on Thursday.”

Here’s what you need to know about the Chiefs-Cowboys clash on Thanksgiving.

Cowboys DT Quinnen Williams Is Dealing With an Injury Ahead of Chiefs Game

It is not all good news for the Cowboys as the franchise is dealing with some injuries of their own. Newly acquired defensive tackle Quinnen Williams revealed he injured his ribs against the Eagles.

“Saquon (Barkley) did get me,” Williams admitted, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “(My ribs) are kinda banged up right now. I’m gonna do some treatment, rehab and things like that and get ready for Thursday.”

With Smith sidelined, Williams and the Cowboys pass rushers could have a bit of an easier time getting to Mahomes.

Dak Prescott on Patrick Mahomes: ‘He’ll Do Anything & Everything It Takes’

Dak Prescott and the Cowboys are still riding high following the team’s comeback victory. Now, Dallas turns their attention to keeping the momentum going against Kansas City. Prescott has been a long admirer of Mahomes throughout his career.

“Everything in his game,” Prescott said of Mahomes, per DallasCowboys.com’s Tommy Yarrish. “The way he plays it, at the end of the day obviously talent jumps out, but you watch a guy who plays with pure passion, who’ll do anything it takes to win.

“On the sideline, he’s not necessarily always running out of bounds, trying to make the extra play, never giving up on a play, has the ability to throw it back across his body. He does it all right. What I respect most is just his will to win, you see it, he’ll do anything and everything it takes.”

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Grew Up a Cowboys Fan

As a standout Texas high school quarterback, Mahomes grew up rooting on the Cowboys with his family. Mahomes was a star quarterback at Whitehouse High School, about two hours outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Now, Mahomes will look to ruin Thanksgiving for Cowboys fans.

“There’s a lot of good times watching those games with my family,” Mahomes remarked on the Cowboys, per The Athletic’s Jesse Newell. “So it’s definitely gonna be surreal being able to play them at the stadium I watched them play at a lot.

“… I think that kid in me wants to be able to go out there and play on Thanksgiving and find a way to win.”
