Liverpool are now starting to say something different about Antoine Semenyo behind the scenes

Antoine Semenyo is just one player being heavily linked with a mid-season switch to Anfield.

Things have been so bad for the Reds so far this season that their attention is already firmly on the January transfer window.

Many names are being tipped to join, but one player who keeps coming up is Bournemouth winger Semenyo.

The 25-year-old has a release clause of £65m that can be activated in January, and Liverpool are one of a number of clubs seriously weighing up a move.

However, despite all the noise surrounding him being fairly positive up until now, journalist Dean Jones has heard something that suggests there could be a change of heart.

Liverpool are hesitant to bring in Antoine Semenyo

Semenyo is one of the most in-form players in the league right now, and over the past few seasons, he has established himself as one of the best wingers in the division.

It is no wonder the Reds have been linked with him given their issues in this department this season, with many fans likely keen for the move to happen.

However, despite the links, Jones has revealed that Liverpool could be having a change of heart, at least until the summer that is.

“Inside the club I’m hearing there is some hesitation,” Jones said on TEAMtalk.

“Perhaps the summer would be a better time to do this, this season has been disrupted already by too many squad changes, do they really want to add another signing into the mix?

Is Antoine Semenyo Liverpool-bound in 2026?

“Anfield was scary. I scored, I did a back-flip at the Kop end. I’m thinking ‘I’ve got them rattled.’ They’re clapping, celebrating, pushing the team on even more. I’m thinking ‘oh my god.’”

“But if you look at Salah’s form, Semenyo does look like the kind of player who can bring something fresh, something explosive.”

The signings made in the summer so far have not worked out just yet, which is why more change could be an issue, but based on how things have gone so far, they might regret not making a January move.

Liverpool must sign either Antoine Semenyo or a centre-back in January

If Liverpool are hesitant on signing Semenyo, that may suggest they are worried about adding elsewhere too, but they simply cannot afford to be.

Although a winger should be high up on their agenda, signing a centre-back should, arguably, be higher, with Liverpool needing one or the other this winter, or even both.

Marc Guehi is the clear favourite, and with Crystal Palace likely willing to sell to avoid him leaving for nothing, a deal might be doable.

There are so many issues that failing to sign anyone in January could cause Liverpool’s season to derail completely, so Reds fans will be hoping they make the right decisions.
