Antoine Semenyo transfer latest: Bids expected as Liverpool “finalise” plans

Antoine Semenyo is attracting interest across the Premier League and Bournemouth are “expecting official bids” in January, with Liverpool among the clubs interested.

Semenyo has been readily linked to Liverpool in either a move this winter or next summer, with the 25-year-old a proven Premier League player who can be registered as a homegrown talent.

The forward signalled his intentions for his future when he signed a new contract with Bournemouth in July that included a release clause.

Liverpool’s interest is not new, and transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano recently stated that the club “are seriously considering” the forward, who is on their transfer shortlist.

*The Telegraph*‘s Mike McGrath has since reported that Liverpool are now ‘finalising their plans for the mid-season window’ as Bournemouth brace for January bids.

Man City and Tottenham are among the clubs to have been name-checked with interest, with Liverpool unlikely to be alone in considering Semenyo an opportunistic signing.

The club invested heavily in their attack over the summer and there will be understandable debate over whether Semenyo is a priority signing to fix the issues at hand.

There is, of course, also continued speculation over a return for Marc Guehi after his deadline day transfer collapsed.

It leaves plenty for Richard Hughes to mull over, but plans need to be clear and decisive to avoid the issues that saw Guehi head back to Selhurst Park after undergoing his medical.

Semenyo can leave Bournemouth for a set fee either in the first two weeks of the January transfer window or after the current campaign concludes.

Reports have widely stated that he will initially be available for £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons in the winter, though it is not known if the fee is paid in its entirety or in instalments.

This was designed to allow Bournemouth to find a replacement in the final weeks of the winter window should he depart.

Romano, meanwhile, then claimed that the 25-year-old can be signed for just over £50 million in the summer transfer window.

It leaves clubs to consider whether they target the forward in January for a premium price or wait until the summer for a reduction on the fee.

McGrath, meanwhile, adds that Semenyo would not have signed his new contract in the summer if it did not include this specific release clause.
