Liverpool welcome PSV Eindhoven to Anfield on Wednesday evening looking to find solace in Europe amid a turbulent domestic campaign. Kick-off is at 8pm GMT in Champions League league-phase action.
Arne Slot’s side have struggled badly in the Premier League, sitting 12th after suffering back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.
Europe, however, has offered a different story – the Reds boast a 13-game winning run at home in the Champions League group/league phase, including a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid earlier this month.
PSV arrive in confident mood. Peter Bosz’s side lead the Eredivisie by six points and have won seven of their last eight matches, while their 6-2 demolition of Napoli last month underlined their attacking threat.
Slot knows them well from his Eredivisie days, though his record against PSV is poor – just one win in eight managerial meetings.
In his programme notes, Slot acknowledged the challenge: “They are a very strong side with some excellent players – you only have to look at their recent victory over Napoli to see this – which makes this an occasion to show our best face.”
Ahead of tonight’s fixture, Liverpool have issued an important safety statement on updated matchday operations now in place for all Anfield games.
The club confirmed: “Every supporter over 16 years old – across general admission and hospitality – will undergo a search before entering the stadium, and these 100 per cent searches will continue up until and after kick-off.”
Fans are advised to arrive early, with “turnstiles opening two hours before kick-off for general admission and three hours for hospitality, allowing enough time for the necessary checks before entry.”
Liverpool stressed that additional resources have been deployed and warned that “abuse directed at stewards or any club employee will not be tolerated and will result in access being denied to the stadium and possible club sanctions.”
The statement concluded: “The safety of fans attending Anfield is paramount.”
