Leeds United and Manchester City injury round-up as midfield trio expected to miss out

Leeds United are preparing for one of the most difficult games of the Premier League calendar this weekend when they go up against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City away from home.

With no announcement confirmed or scheduled by Leeds, it looks as if Daniel Farke will continue in his role as Leeds manager for the game. That is despite plenty of noise coming out on social media this week.

Prediction for Leeds v Man City:

LeedsUnited.News understands that the 49ers are more than aware of pressure from fans, and that fans are becoming restless. Indeed, Leeds fans sang “you don’t know what you’re doing” to Farke on Sunday.

But, the 49ers and Paraag Marathe are keen to avoid any knee-jerk decisions. However, with Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool up next, the feeling is that Farke will need a miracle to avoid getting the sack.

Leeds United injury news ahead of Man City trip

Going into Sunday’s defeat to Aston Villa, Farke confirmed he had a clean bill of health among his players. A rarity in this day and age, and certainly, at Leeds. Willy Gnonto made his return as a sub on Sunday.

However, during the defeat to Aston Villa, Anton Stach was substituted in the first half and it is believed the German has suffered a concussion. It means the £19.9m man will undergo concussion protocol.

That is likely to keep Leeds’ most-expensive signing of the summer window sidelined when Farke takes his side to face Lukas Nmecha’s old team. However, it appears Stach is the only injury concern for Leeds.

Pep Guardiola will be without two key Man City midfielders

Over at The Etihad, Guardiola is also enjoying a largely injury-free City at the moment. His side however, suffered a surprise home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Ahead of the defeat to the German outfit, Guardiola confirmed that Rodri has a thigh injury and the Spanish midfielder is expected to be treated with caution, given he suffered an ACL injury during 2024-25.

Then there is Mateo Kovacic, another central midfielder, who is also sidelined for a considerable amount of time after an ankle injury. Other than Kovacic and Rodri, City also have a relatively fit squad available.
