The Boston Celtics have reason to be monitoring the Jonathan Kuminga situation in Golden State. Boston has a couple of trade-able assets in Anfernee Simons and Sam Hauser that [could be used in a deal for Kuminga](https://nesn.com/2025/11/celtics-could-explore-trade-avenues-to-acquire-dynamic-warriors-wing/), who, according to [Yahoo Sport’s Kevin O’Connor](https://x.com/KevinOConnor/status/1993403568951578994?s=20), looks on the verge of being traded by the Warriors.
O’Connor pointed out that Kuminga’s recent injury status is bordering on a disinterest to play for the Warriors.
Kuminga and the Warriors have a very complicated history together. Kuminga has often been adamant that he deserves a larger role within Golden State’s game plan, and head coach Steve Kerr has often pushed against that concept.
As the Celtics continue to navigate the 2025-26 season with Jayson Tatum sidelined by an Achilles injury, Kuminga might provide the need for another hyper-athletic wing to complement Jaylen Brown and stabilize the depth chart from a talent standpoint.

Kuminga’s contract situation (club option for next season) positions him as a low-risk, high-reward addition for the Celts. He is eligible for deals starting January 15, which means Boston could still pull off a deal before the February 5 NBA trade deadline. Packages centered around Anfernee Simons’ expiring $27.6 million contract could be a pathway to a successful trade, although it would likely have to be a three-team trade.
