Liverpool and Man Utd are reportedly battling to sign an in-demand Brazil international

Premier League champions Liverpool are reportedly planning to break the bank once again with a big-money move for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior.

The Reds are currently under-performing in the Premier League table and are assessing the market to try and find players that can help salvage the team’s season.

The champions are still coming to terms with Luis Diaz’s high profile exit to Bayern Munich in the summer and are yet to see the best of a number of attacking options, including Cody Gakpo, Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah. They are hoping to increase their chances of winning silverware by enhancing their front line and are believed to be on red alert after learning of Vinicius’ potential availability.

Liverpool plot move for Vinicius Junior

According to a report from Football Insider, Vinicius could be available for a figure of around £80m next summer if he completes a Real Madrid exit. The 45-time Brazil international is believed to have fallen out with manager Xabi Alonso, leading to uncertainty surrounding his long-term future with the club.

The Flamengo academy graduate, who has spent the last seven years of his career in the Spanish capital, is currently under contract until 2027, meaning he has just 18 months to run on his existing deal.

Real Madrid are said to have offered Vinicius Jr a contract extension, but negotiations over a new deal have stalled, with reports citing his relationship with Alonso as one of the main stumbling blocks in negotiations. Liverpool are thought to be one of the front-runners to try and push for a deal in 2026, but there not the only interested club with Manchester United also being linked with the 25-year-old’s services as they look to try and return to their former glory.

What would Vincius Junior bring to Liverpool

Netherlands international Gakpo is currently Liverpool’s only senior option at left-wing, with the exception of academy graduate Rio Ngumoha, who is still only 17-years-old and learning his trade.

On the other flank, Liverpool have club legend Mohamed Salah, who has consistently delivered, but his performances have dipped in recent weeks. Meanwhile, the only other right-winger, Italian international Federico Chiesa, almost never gets in the starting lineup and is assessing his options as a move back to Italy in January is mooted.

Signing Vinicius would immediately bring a different dimension to Liverpool’s attack and a much improved offensive threat. The Brazil winger has scored an impressive 111 goals in 339 appearances for Los Blancos and has also registered 87 assists, making him one of La Liga and Europe’s top performing players throughout the last decade.

Vinicius is blessed with immense pace, flair, creativity and the ability to deliver in big moments. He’s won three league titles, two Champions League’s and three Spanish cups since arriving at the Bernabeu and is considered one of the best in the world - finishing runner-up in the 2024 Ballon d’Or behind Manchester City ace Rodri.
