Official: Real Madrid starting lineup against Olympiacos | UEFA Champions League

Over the past few months, one of the biggest talking points surrounding Real Madrid has been the relationship between superstar Vinicius Jr. and manager Xabi Alonso.

The 44-year-old tactician has not been shy of benching the Brazilian winger from the starting XI on quite a few occasions this season, while he has also not hesitated to sub him out of matches either.

It has led to tension between the pair, with the 25-year-old attacker even lashing out at Alonso after being taken off against Barcelona late last month.

Recent reports went as far as suggesting that Vinicius was hesitant to commit to a new contract at Real Madrid due to Alonso’s presence.

Xabi Alonso on relationship with Vinicius

Amidst all the rumours and speculations, Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso himself has addressed the matter of his relationship with Vinicius Jr. head on in a recent chat with TNT Sports Brasil.

The Spanish tactician insisted that everything is well between himself and his ace superstar, downplaying the reports of a rift.

“It’s very good, we’re getting to know each other better. There are many matches, so we have time for everything, but Vini is a fundamental player,” said Alonso.

The Real Madrid manager insisted that the team is better when Vinicius is happy and enjoying himself, while reiterating his confidence in the Brazilian.

“When Vini is happy, when he’s enjoying himself, it’s good for the team. That’s how we approach it, the relationship is very good,” said Alonso.

“We have confidence, we talk before the games. He knows what I think, I know what he thinks. This is the best way to make decisions together.”
