Chelsea are closely monitoring Myles Lewis-Skelly’s situation and considering a swoop, although Arsenal’s stance could prevent any deal.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are already thinking about a swoop for Myles Lewis-Skelly in the future. The Blues are closely monitoring the 19-year-old wonderkid ahead of concerns with his lack of game time at the Emirates, although Arsenal’s firm stance on their academy graduate would prevent any possible move.
Myles Lewis-Skelly enjoyed a massive breakthrough season last time out, as he cemented his status as one of the most exciting and accomplished young talents in world football. The Arsenal academy graduate took his opportunity and cemented a starting berth at left back last season amid injury concerns with Riccardo Calafiori.
Originally a midfielder while coming through the Hale End Academy, Lewis-Skelly has been converted into a successful left back under Mikel Arteta. The 19-year-old wonderkid signed a new long-term deal at the club owing to his performances from last season, but in the new campaign, he has been a bit-part player at best.
Calafiori’s return to form and fitness has rendered Lewis-Skelly as the second-choice left-back in the team, with Arteta sticking with his defined defensive setup. Recent comments from England boss Thomas Tuchel stated the 19-year-old wonderkid must play regularly to stand a chance of featuring in his squad for the World Cup, which had given rise to speculation.
A host of teams are interested in exploring a move for Myles Lewis-Skelly, although, should Arsenal even consider a departure, it might have been only on loan. However, the Gunners are not interested in loaning him out either, with Arteta considering him a key part of his plans even though the minutes have dried up. Moreover, the 19-year-old wonderkid is not forcing the issue to leave despite the warning from his England boss.
Arsenal are protected by a long-term deal with the English international, and while they consider Lewis-Skelly a key part of their future plans, in the present, they are not eager to let him leave. Hence, their firm stance could spell trouble for Chelsea, who had been keen to explore a move.
Chelsea are interested in Myles Lewis-Skelly
Chelsea have closely monitored a host of Arsenal’s young crop, including Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly and young 15-year-old Max Dowman. The report states that the Blues are indeed interested in Lewis-Skelly and are keeping close tabs on his current situation at the Emirates.
While Chelsea had considered making a swoop for the 19-year-old wonderkid, Arsenal’s firm stance will see them return empty-handed should they approach. With Chelsea currently the closest challenger to the Gunners, any sale to a direct rival at the moment makes any deal impossible from the North Londoners’ perspective.
