Sam Allardyce claims there’s an England goalkeeper who’s even better than Jordan Pickford

Jordan Pickford showed England manager Thomas Tuchel just what he was capable of on Monday night against Manchester United.

It was a stellar performance from all of the Everton players left on the pitch following Idrissa Gana Gueye’s sending off.

Although Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall received Sky Sports’ Man of the Match, Everton News readers voted Pickford as their top Everton performer against Man United.

A second clean sheet in as many games has not been tallied up by the 31-year-old, who was performing in front of his national side’s manager.

Tuchel spoke privately with Jack Grealish and James Garner following the match, with Pickford well established as the starting goalkeeper.

But former Everton manager Sam Allardyce has admitted there’s another English goalkeeper he thinks is currently better than Pickford.

Sam Allardyce names England goalkeeper better than Everton’s Jordan Pickford

Pickfordstunned Gary Neville with his save to deny Joshua Zirkzee from levelling the score in the final minutes of the game.

The 31-year-old has nailed down the starting spot for the Three Lions through years of consistency under Gareth Southgate.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce has claimed he thinks Crystal Palace’s Dean Henderson is the best in the Premier League.

Where does Jordan Pickford rank among Premier League goalkeepers?

“This lad who I think is the best goalkeeper proved it all last year and this year. He doesn’t have to do as much because they’re doing so well at the top end of the league and that’s Dean Henderson at Crystal Palace,” said Allardyce.

“I just think he’s so confident in himself. He believes when someone gets a penalty that he is going to save it. It’s bordering on arrogance.”

Even Man United fans were praising Pickford following his sensational display on Monday evening at Old Trafford.

If Tuchel needed any further convincing about the 31-year-old, he certainly got that from the stands earlier this week.

Jordan Pickford is clearly England’s number one

There is a reason why Tuchel has stuck with Pickford throughout the nitty gritty periods of the recent World Cup Qualifiers.

This has to be one of the saves of the season!

Where would Everton be without him?

Ben Foster thinks Pickford is so underrated and that could well be down to him not playing for a side competing in Europe.

The 31-year-old has been as solid as ever this season, with Monday night’s performance perhaps his best of the season.

Dean Henderson 26

In comparison to Henderson, Pickford has been by far the busier of the two goalkeepers in the Premier League this season.

Gary Lineker also thinks Pickford is always consistently brilliant, but Allaradyce still thinks that Henderson is the best in the league.
