Seahawks Sign Super Bowl Champion Before Vikings Game

The Seattle Seahawks have bolstered their roster, and in a fitting fashion, ahead of their Week 13 showdown against the Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks have signed former Vikings running back Cam Akers.

Akers has bounced around the league in recent seasons, and he arrives with an extensive injury history.

Still, his arrival comes at a fine time.

There are several connections between the two teams. And while Akers may not be the most prominent or even a factor, given how late in the process he is joining the fray, it remains a noteworthy subplot to Sunday's tilt.

"Sources: The #Seahawks are signing veteran RB Cam Akers to their active roster," Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz reported on X on Wednesday. "Akers, still just 26, spent time with the Vikings this season and now joins 8–3 Seattle for RB depth.

"The #Seahawks face the #Vikings - Cam Akers' old team - on Sunday."

Akers, 26, was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams, selected with the No. 52 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He won a Super Bowl with the Rams in his second season, but injuries have limited his impact and led to him moving around the league frequently. The Seahawks are Akers' fifth team since the Rams traded him in 2023, though the Vikings appear twice on his resume.

He has also spent time with the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints.

Akers has yet to play this season, but he did log a full 17-game slate during the 2024 regular season, which he split between Houston and Minnesota.

Akers joins a backfield that includes a two-headed threat of starter Kenneth Walker and backup Zach Charbonnet. Akers has rushed for 2,044 yards and 13 touchdowns on 507 carries, adding another 388 yards and four TDs on 52 receptions, in his career.
