What Patriots coach wants to see from 1st-rounder Will Campbell now that he’s on injured reserve

Will Campbell has officially been placed on injured reserve, reportedly with an MCL sprain.

The rookie tackle will be sidelined for New England’s next four games, so the earliest he can return is the season finale against the Dolphins on Jan. 4. That means the Patriots will be without Campbell against the Giants, Bills, Ravens, and Jets. The plan is for Vederian Lowe to step into his place at left tackle.

So now that Campbell is stuck on the shelf for over a month, what does Mike Vrabel want to see from the rookie tackle during his recovery?

“You just keep (Campbell) engaged,” Vrabel said. “He comes into the meetings and stays engaged and works hard to get back and to recover quickly. That’s all it can be. If you want to have a good, long NFL career you’re going to have to battle through some of these things. These things are going to come up.

“I would say he’s already working hard, extremely hard, to get back. Being engaged in the meetings. So that’s kind of what it’ll be for the next four weeks.”
