New England Patriots kicker Andy Borregales was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after a perfect outing against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Borregales connected on all four of his field goal attempts including makes from 41, 45, 19, and 52 yards. The final kick from distance played a key role in New England securing a wide-20 road victory.
“Andy making the kick and making it a touchdown game allowed us just enough time to get them stopped on fourth down,” head coach Mike Vrabel said. “We appreciate what he’s done. I think he has a lot of confidence there and in the operation.”
On the year, Borregales, who the Patriots selected in the sixth-round of this year’s draft, is now 19-of-21 on field goal attempts with his 90.5 percentage tied for seventh among all kickers. He has also connected on 33-of-35 extra point attempts.
Since missing a pair of extra points in Miami back in Week 2, Borregales has missed just one total kick since.
“Looking back, you know, I went through a lot,” Borregales said. “There’s a lot of learning curves that I had to go through, and I wouldn’t change anything about it. At the end of the day, just letting God take control and follow his plan.”
Borregales is the third Patriot player to earn AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors, joining Antonio Gibson (Week 2) and Marcus Jones (Week 4), who were each rewarded due to their performance in the return game. Jones and K’Lavon Chaisson were additionally honored with Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
