Week 13 College Quarterback Recap

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders led the Browns to a win versus the Las Vegas Raiders, becoming the first rookie to win their Browns debut in nearly 30 years. The question still remains as to whether he can stop the Browns from picking a quarterback high in the upcoming draft, but head coach Kevin Stefanski gave him the runway to attempt it when he announced that Sanders is now the starter. For now though, we will continue keeping an eye on the top quarterback prospects for the 2026 draft.

Dante Moore, Oregon, 6'3", 210 lbs.

22-30, 257 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 2 carries, -3 yards

Moore had another good game against a high quality opponent, leading the Ducks to a win versus the USC Trojans. The final score was 42-27, and the Ducks were in control for most of the game. Moore showed off his poise and accuracy on throws all over the field, layering passes over defenders and placing throws where only his receivers could make the catch. He did slip up with an interception, but quickly got back into rhythm with two nice passes on the next drive. ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid posted this cutup of a few of Moore's throws.

Dante Moore was quiet for part of the season, playing how he needed to in order to get wins, but recently, he has found another gear. While he used to be considered a mid-first round talent, now he's elevating his game to be considered at much earlier picks. He's doing exactly what evaluators look for this time of year: can you take a developmental leap, when games get harder, the stakes are bigger, and more eyes are on you? So far, Moore has answered the call. He'll lead the Ducks into rivalry week versus Washington in an effort to further boost his stocks and guide Oregon into the College Football Playoff.

Fernando Mendoza, Indiana, 6'5", 225 lbs.

The Indiana Hoosiers were off this past weekend, recuperating before they take on their rival Purdue Boilermakers this Saturday. Nothing is ever guaranteed in football, but Mendoza and the Hoosiers are expected to handle business versus Purdue and set themselves up with a clash versus the top ranked team in the nation-the Ohio State Buckeyes. Facing the Buckeyes will give the Hoosiers their biggest test yet, and evaluators will be watching Mendoza to see how he fares versus Ohio State's historic defense.

LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina, 6'3", 240 lbs.

16-20, 274 yards, 2 TD, 8 carries, 82 yards, 2 rushing TD

It went as expected for Sellers and the Gamecocks versus Coastal Carolina. They cruised to a 51-7 win. Sellers did a little bit of everything in this game, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for two more. He displayed nice arm strength and showed just how hard it is to bring him down, whether in the pocket or on a designed run. It was versus a lower tier opponent, but games like this are why so many believe Sellers has an NFL future. Whether that's through the draft this year or after transferring and playing college ball another year before declaring, that is yet to be determined. But the tools are there and all it takes is one team to fall in love.

Sellers will lead South Carolina against the Clemson Tigers at home this rivalry week. South Carolina is favored in this matchup. Clemson, despite the down year, still has plenty of talent on their roster, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Their loss to the Sellers-led Gamecocks last season stung so much, it was one of the first things first year defensive coordinator Tom Allen was set to fix when hired this past January. Said Allen, "It was a fresh wound, I guess that's probably the way to say it when I got here. Definitely something that we know we have to have an answer for." Expect them to make life as difficult as possible for Sellers. How will he handle a gameplan that's been in development for nearly 11 months?

Ty Simpson, Alabama, 6'2", 208 lbs.

11-16, 147 yards, 2 INT, 2 carries, 17 yards

Simpson wasn't asked to do too much versus Eastern Illinois, only throwing 16 times the entire game. He did not play the second half. Simpson threw for his first multi-interception game in his career, although one was on a Hail Mary throw before halftime. Still, the concern is being raised that when others are elevating their game, Simpson seems to be slipping a bit. In addition to the increased interceptions, he's also lost 5 fumbles. There's been some rumor that it might be best for him to return to school for another year, and if the turnovers continue, that may become reality. For now though, Simpson is confident he can get back to the play that vaulted his name to the top of prospect boards.

When asked about the perceived drop-off in play, Simpson said, "I've always got something to prove-everybody is asking me, what's up? It's in the back of my mind, I'm just going to go do my job. What a great week to do it in. You know what I mean? It's a really great team and a really great defense." It'll be his first Iron Bowl as the Crimson Tide's starter. He'll need to be ready for the Auburn defense that will be doing everything they can to continue the turnover trend going.
