Arizona State football alum and current New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo will serve as the team's honorary captain ahead of Friday's game against the Arizona Wildcats.
When Sun Devils head coach Kenny Dillingham was asked about how meaningful it is for Skattebo to attend this year's Territorial Cup game in Tempe, he is excited to hear all about that.
“It’s what college football is supposed to be,” Dillingham said Monday, via Justin LaCertosa of DevilsDigest.com. “You should graduate from school and have a passion about that place, and come back and feel like you’re at home.”
Throughout his collegiate football career with Arizona State, Skattebo spent two seasons with the team after transferring from Sacramento State and made a name for himself.
He has a total rushing yards of 2,494 and 30 touchdowns on 457 carries, while collecting 891 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 45 receptions in 25 games played for the Sun Devils.
In his senior season, Skattebo finished fifth in Heisman voting after appearing in 13 games, where he had a total of 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns on 293 carries.
He also had an impressive performance in the 2025 Peach Bowl, where he was named the Offensive MVP of the game after setting Arizona State's single-season record for touchdowns from scrimmage
Skattebo was selected at 105th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by the New York Giants after finishing his tenure in Tempe. He appeared in eight games -five as a starting running back- before missing the remainder of the season due to a severe ankle injury.
One of the bright spots for the Sun Devils fans to look forward to is seeing Skattebo's return to Mountain America Stadium in a sold-out Territorial Cup game on Friday night.
