Arsenal suffer major injury blow in Bayern clash as star man faces Chelsea wait

Arsenal have been handed a major injury concern with Leandro Trossard forced off during the first half of their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich at Emirates Stadium. Jurrien Timber had earlier put the hosts in front before Lennart Kart equalised from a Michael Olise cross.

Soon after those goals, the Belgian received treatment from physios while appearing to hold his calf and he unsurprisingly headed straight down the tunnel. With a London derby against Chelsea to come this weekend, Trossard faces a nervy wait to feature.

Thankfully, Mikel Arteta has options to replace him if needed with Madueke, who came on for Trossard, and Gabriel Martinelli both more than capable of filling in. Both wingers have recently returned from injury and look to have done at the perfect time given Trossard's muscular concern.

He has been in excellent form this season with important goals coming against Tottenham and Sunderland in the last few weeks. In terms of other injuries, Gabriel Magalhaes, Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres are unavailable.

There is hope the latter duo can feature this weekend at Stamford Bridge but Gabriel is expected to be out for a number of weeks. Martin Odegaard's return to the fold was a welcome sight though with the Gunners captain having missed the last few months because of a knee injury.

The Norweijan midfielder just missed out on featuring in last weekend's North London Derby triumph over Tottenham.

As quoted in Arsenal's programme notes, he said: "Personally, I was so disappointed not to be involved in the squad for the north London derby. I had been working really hard all week to be ready for it, but unfortunately, I wasn’t quite ready by Sunday.

"I’m getting close now and games like that just make me even more determined to come back."

On that victory over their bitter rivals, he added: "I thought we were brilliant. We dominated the game early on, and as soon as Leo put us ahead, we took control and looked dangerous every time we went forward.

"And what a day for Ebs! That performance was just incredible, three brilliant finishes for the goals and it’s a game he will never forget.

"We all enjoyed it together in the changing room after the game, but as soon as Monday came, we were focussed on the next one."

Odegaard will be looking to feature off the bench against Bayern before also playing against Chelsea.
