Chelsea in talks to sign France international

Estevao Willian stole the show with a fine solo goal as Chelsea beat Barcelona 3-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

After Jules Kounde’s own goal had put the Blues in front, Estevao doubled the hosts’ advantage with a stunning solo strike into the corner, having beaten two Barcelona defenders.

Liam Delap then added a third for Enzo Maresca’s side, with the goal initially having been chalked off for offside before VAR intervention; Chelsea’s fourth disallowed goal of the the game.

That result moved Chelsea into the top eight in the Champions League group phase table, and Maresca will hope to see his side stay there and secure automatic qualification for the knockout stages of the competition.

Ahead of their game against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday, it has emerged that Chelsea are in talks to sign a new goalkeeper.

As reported by Sky Sports via CaughtOffside, Chelsea have begun talks with the representatives of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The report claims that the Blues have started discussions with the Frenchman’s representatives, with a view to signing the player next year.

That could spell the end of Filip Jorgensen’s time at Stamford Bridge, with the Dane likely to fall down the pecking order of ‘keepers in Maresca’s squad if Maignan does arrive.

Jorgensen, 23, joined Chelsea from Spanish side Villarreal last year but has since struggled to establish himself as Maresca’s first choice ‘keeper.

The one-time Denmark international has kept ten clean sheets and conceded 29 goals in 28 games for the Blues since joining the club, but the report suggests that he could be on his way out of SW6 if Maignan joins the Blues next year.
