Liverpool were the architects of their own downfall as they were thrashed at home by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. The hosts made a nightmare start, going behind after just five minutes with Ivan Perisic scoring from the penalty spot. It came after the ball struck Virgil van Dijk's inexplicably outstretched arm inside the box. Liverpool responded well and quickly drew level, with Dominik Szoboszlai tucking home a rebound after Cody Gakpo's effort was parried into his path.
It looked like the Reds would turn things around until PSV restored their lead against the run of play in the second half. Guus Til squeezed ahead of Milos Kerkez and buried a first-time strike to finish a sweeping team move. Couhaib Driouech added a third in the closing stages, capitalising on a brainless moment from Ibrahima Konate.
He was at it again in stoppage time, slamming home from the edge of the box to condemn Liverpool to their ninth defeat in 12 matches and pile even more pressure on Arne Slot.

Liverpool player ratings vs PSV
Giorgi Mamardashvili - 5
Had no chance of saving the penalty and wasn't to blame for the second goal either. Kicking wasn't the best, though.
Curtis Jones - 6
Fared reasonably well on the right side of defence. Quick to press and challenge at the back while bombing further up the pitch when needed.
Ibrahima Konate - 3
Could have done more to get closer to the ball in the build-up to the winning goal and had a nightmare for the third, getting his bearings completely wrong. Was deservedly hooked moments later.
Virgil van Dijk - 3
Mindless handball for the penalty and picked up a silly booking shortly afterwards. Hit the bar with a towering header but was dreadful apart from that.
Milos Kerkez - 5
Was having a good game at both ends of the pitch until he allowed Til to squeeze in front of him for PSV's second goal, which overshadowed his display.
Ryan Gravenberch - 5
Kept things ticking in the middle of the park but lacked composure at times. Wasn't as good as he usually is for the Reds.
Alexis Mac Allister - 5
Worked hard to influence proceedings in the engine room but not everything came off the way he would have wanted.
Dominik Szoboszlai - 7
Got himself in the right place to tuck home for Liverpool's equaliser. Carved out plenty of chances and impressed off the ball, too.
Cody Gakpo - 6
Created the equaliser with some forward-thinking play and looked lively throughout, but missed a point-blank header in the second half.
Mohamed Salah - 3
Had a chance to score in the first half but smashed his effort well over the crossbar. Didn't do much else of note and was beaten too easily in the build-up to the winning goal.
Hugo Ekitike - 6
Wanted to make an impact and it showed in his energetic approach until he was forced off with an injury. Hopefully nothing serious.
Substitutes
Alexander Isak - 4
Introduced on the hour mark, replacing the injured Ekitike, but failed to step up and didn't do anything worth mentioning.
Federico Chiesa - 6
Played the final 15 minutes and brought the sense of urgency his team-mates were lacking. Should have won a late penalty when he was brought down inside the box.
