Dan Quinn was back behind the mic before the Washington Commanders returned to practice for the first time since their game against the Miami Dolphins in Spain. They had their bye last week, and held a walkthrough on Monday, but this will be their first full practice as they prepare to host the Denver Broncos on Sunday Night Football. The team has another primetime game this week, and will also have camera crews from Hard Knocks following them around for HBO’s in-season version of the show featuring the NFC East.
Quinn was excited to have more players back on the field today. That includes injured players like WRs Terry McLaurin (quad) and Noah Brown (groin), along with DT Daron Payne who was suspended for the Dolphins game. He wouldn’t say whether the returning WRs would be full participants, but they’re working their way back to potentially play this week. Brown had his 21-day practice window opened yesterday, or had a full practice since Week 2. McLaurin returned for a game, before aggravating the injury and missing three more.
Safety Will Harris is another player that could potentially be activated from injured reserve this week, Quinn called him a great communicator, and looks forward to him returning to the defense that he’s now calling plays for. DE Drake Jackson also had his practice window opened while in Spain, and Quinn said he’s been happy with what he’s seen from him. He cautioned that Jackson hasn’t played football in a while(patellar tendon injury), and he’ll need to be in football shape before he gets activated.
Jayden Daniels is practicing this week, but he hasn’t been cleared for contact. Quinn has already said that it’s unlikely he’ll be able to return this week, but he’s ramping up this week. This will be the first time that Daniels will be on the practice field with McLaurin and Brown, and building chemistry is important.
