Liverpool player ratings vs PSV: 'Almost unfathomable' 3/10 and so many 4/10s in another embarrassing loss

Arne Slot has come under increased pressure as Liverpool suffered their latest chastening defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League at Anfield.

A 4-1 loss condemned the Reds to a ninth loss in 12 games in all competitions, with a smattering of boos at full-time showing that supporters are beginning to grow impatient with the head coach.

Despite guiding Liverpool to the Premier League title last season, the recent run of results will be regarded as unacceptable by many - and, as thing stand, there are few signs he has the answers to turn things around in the reverse.

Liverpool made a disastrous start and conceded within six minutes. The ball caught Virgil van Dijk’s flailing arm from a corner, with the referee immediately pointing to the penalty spot. Ivan Perisic stepped up and sent Reds goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili the wrong way.

But Liverpool managed to regain their composure and were level on 16 minutes. Cody Gakpo’s shot was only parried and the rebound fell kindly to Dominik Szoboszlai to finish.

The Reds largely dominated the remainder of the first half but could not find another goal, with Van Dijk almost atoning for his error when heading against the crossbar and Hugo Ekitike having a couple of efforts saved.

After starting the second half brightly, Liverpool collapsed. On 56 minutes, Guus Til put PSV ahead after being picked out far too easily. Then with 17 minutes left, Couhaib Driouech put the visitors two goals in front following an Ibrahima Konate mistake before the PSV substitute condemned the Reds to more misery in stoppage-time.

There were some boos at the full-time whistle, with Slot bereft following another humbling and embarrassing loss.

Guesses the wrong way for Perisic's penalty and was urged to be quicker with the ball at his feet by the crowd early in the first half. Not a chance with any of the goals afte the break but disruption was so poor.

Decision to put his hands up from PSV's corner was almost unfathomable despite his claims of being fouled. Earned himself a booking for a rash tackle but went closing to bagging before the break. Failed to stop the rot after the break.
