Arsenal handed Bayern Munich their first defeat since the season kicked off with a dazzling Champions League display at the Emirates Stadium, beating the German side 3-1.

The Gunners took the lead halfway through the first half as Jurrien Timber rose highest to nod in a corner from Bukayo Saka. However, the visitors equalised 10 minutes later when Lennart Karl poked the ball in from close quarters.

Arsenal shifted up a gear in the second half, with two substitutes inflicting the damage to secure the victory. First, Noni Madueke nudged the ball in from close range with just over 20 minutes left on the clock, before Gabriel Martinelli slotted into an empty net after Manuel Neuer had dashed off his line but failed to reach the ball.

Daily Star Sportgives its verdict on the Gunners' performances following tonight's resounding win....

David Raya, 7 - Couldn't do much about Karl's goal and didn't have too many saves to make. Was always available to give his defenders an option in possession.

Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli celebrates with team-mates after scoring their side's third goal of the game during the UEFA Champions League, league phase match at the Emirates Stadium, London. Picture date: Wednesday November 26, 2025.

Arsenal played Bayern Munich off the park

Jurrien Timber, 9 - Is so strong on and off the ball and rose well to head in the first goal of the evening. Nearly set up Madueke with a sumptuous volley across the area before the break, reports the Express.

William Saliba, 7 - Looked shaky at times and almost gifted Bayern a goal after seeing a clearance ricochet off Martin Zubimendi and back to his goalkeeper. Had his hands full with Harry Kane but stood up well to the challenge overall.

Cristhian Mosquera, 7 - Fell victim to a hefty tackle from Dayot Upamecano halfway through the first half. Then let Lennart Karl sneak in for Bayern's equaliser. Had a golden opportunity to score on the hour mark but headed straight at Neuer, though he was solid for most of the match.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, 5 - Caught off guard by Joshua Kimmich's lofted ball leading to Bayern's opener and struggled to contain the threat of Michael Olise, finding himself overshadowed by the former Crystal Palace man at one point.

Eberechi Eze, 6 - Still riding high after his hat-trick against Tottenham on Sunday, but found it hard to make an impact on this game. Had a chance to double Arsenal's lead just before Bayern's equaliser but sent a weak shot wide. Attempted a scoop pass again in the second half.

Martin Zubimendi, 9 - Displayed great determination to win a corner in the first half and looked confident with the ball. Showed aggression when necessary, won his headers and kept the passes flowing.

A thumbs up from Mikel Arteta manager / head coach of Arsenal during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Phase MD5 match between Arsenal FC and FC Bayern München at Arsenal Stadium on November 26, 2025 in London, England.

Mikel Arteta learned a crucial lesson during the clash

Declan Rice, 9 - Once again, he was outstanding. Dropped deep to collect the ball at times to drive his team forward and surged ahead when given space.

As usual, he was on free-kick duties and delivered a series of threatening balls into the box. Forced a superb save from Neuer and then celebrated after landing a crunching tackle on Kane. An essential figure for Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka, 8 - Received treatment after being hit in the face with the ball in the first-half. Then delivered a precise corner onto Timber's head for the opening goal. Fired a shot at goal just after half-time and was a constant threat in attack.

Mikel Merino, 6 - Stepped up front once again in the absence of Viktor Gyokeres but was kept under control by the Bayern defenders. Created room for the other Arsenal forwards, however, with his smart movements. Should have headed in a goal just before the hour mark.

Leandro Trossard, 8 - Worked tirelessly at both ends of the pitch and tracked back to assist Lewis-Skelly in dealing with Olise but was then forced off due to an injury.
