Arne Slot says that it is normal that there is talk about his position Liverpool’s latest embarrassing defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven. But the Reds boss suggested that he still has the support of the club’s hierarchy.
Liverpool’s 4-1 loss against PSV saw them slip to a ninth defeat in 12 matches in all competitions. With the Reds already dropping out of the Premier League title race, having won the English championship last season, Slot’s side have now suffered successive chastening reverses at Anfield. Last weekend, they fell to a 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
And after being humbled by PSV, pressure has piled on Slot’s role as head coach. Liverpool spent circa £450 million in the summer transfer window yet they have gone backwards from last season.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Slot said: “I think I have been feeling safe, I am OK. I have a lot of support from above. It would be nice if I can turn it around but that is part and parcel.
“I am OK with my position. Not for first time I have been in a difficult situation. Not in a sense they tell me every minute we support you. We talk a lot if we are winning or losing then they are helpful to me. We do have those conversations but they don’t call me every day that they still trust me. I feel the trust.”
