**Liverpool lost 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday evening as the nightmare that is the 2025/26 season reached a new low.**
In their last 12 games, Liverpool have lost nine. As a result, their silverware prospects have vanished. With the Reds 11 points off the league title pace and 13th in the Champions League group table, it’s difficult to see how they can turn things around this season.
Not only is their form unrecognisable, but the fight seems to have vanished from the squad compared to the one that raced to the Premier League title last season.
In the buildup to kickoff, many fans hoped that a Champions League night under the lights at Anfield would be the perfect thing to reinvigorate Liverpool, but another worrying defeat has made it official that the club is in crisis.

After the passing of Diogo Jota over the summer, Liverpool’s football has steadily regressed after an overwhelmingly emotional start to the season.
The fact that these players are going about their jobs while processing the tragic loss of their friend and teammate, while doing so in front of the cameras, is not something that can be glossed over.
I say this knowing I have no idea what anyone could do in this situation.
Arne Slot’s future is in danger, but it’s not that simple

Any other manager in any other club and situation would be at risk of being fired.
FSG are a business-oriented organisation, and they will not be happy at all about the worrying short-term return on the £466m invested into transfer over the summer, but Liverpool cannot fire Slot. And I don’t believe they will.
Slot should have more than enough goodwill in the bank from winning the title in his first season, in addition to the exigent circumstances in the wake of Diogo passing away.
As soon as the tragic news broke, this team ceased being just a squad of reigning champions and became a group of young men processing life’s toughest lesson while in the public eye.
Likewise, Slot’s job changed drastically. To fire the 47-year-old now would be to suggest that the only issue right now is how his tactics are working. This is also before you even begin to unpack the new transfers and how they fit into the complicated and sad context of this season.
Liverpool players, managers and general staff deserve grace and time to mourn and process even if results are currently acceptable according to the club’s recent and historic success.
The team and the club will find peace and grow from this, even if they won’t find the success many hoped would arrive this season, and that will need to be enough if results don’t improve soon.
