Friday’s Game Last Chance For Jazz Fans To See 30 Rock Basketball

SALT LAKE CITY – Fans who want a photo with the Utah Jazz’s 30 Rock Basketball must act Friday, when the display makes its final appearance during the game against the Sacramento Kings.

Local artist Trent Call designed the ball as part of an October installation at Rockefeller Center in New York, where 30 custom basketballs celebrated the NBA’s return to NBC this season.

Jazz 30 Rock Basketball On Display Before Auction

The Jazz first showcased the 30 Rock ball at Delta Center during last Friday’s NBA Cup home opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder. It will appear again on the main concourse, where fans can take photos with the eight-foot-tall display.

Call, 45, attended the Thunder game and appreciated the warm reception from Jazz fans.

“It kind of surprised me how many people were getting photos,” Call said. “People knew the ball was there.”

A Utah native, Call previously created a mural for the Jazz at 110 S Main St to celebrate 40 years of team history.

While the 2018 mural highlighted Jazz legends like John Stockton, Karl Malone, Frank Layden, Jerry Sloan, and Hot Rod Hundley, the 30 Rock Basketball features nods to the current roster.

One panel displays a badge with the name “Walker” to honor Walker Kessler’s “Sheriff” nickname. Another shows an animated Ace of Spades card dunking a basketball, paying tribute to rookie Ace Bailey.

NBC commissioned local artists in all 30 NBA markets to design the balls, aiming to strengthen ties between teams and their communities.

“They were really trying to push the artists and show off the diversity,” Call added.

With the Jazz’s NBA Cup run ending against the Kings, the team will include the 30 Rock Basketball in its holiday auction. Proceeds will benefit the SEG Foundation, which supports local causes throughout the Jazz and Utah Hockey Club seasons.
