Warriors vs. Rockets: The matchup

The Rockets were successful in their first of two games without Durant, who was announced to be out for a Monday matchup in Phoenix against the Suns, which Houston won 114-92, and Wednesday’s contest against the Warriors. With Durant tending to a personal matter, Houston got a big night from Amen Thompson to handle the Suns comfortably by hitting 13 of 31 attempts from 3-point range and forcing 21 Phoenix turnovers. Thompson was a bright spot going for 28 points with seven rebounds and eight assists, while Aaron Holiday delivered a spark with 22 points off the bench.

The Warriors look to continue an emergence from a three-game losing skid as part of a five-game home stand that takes the team into December. While Golden State fell to the Portland Trail Blazers (127-123) in the opener of that stretch, the team bounced back Monday night with a 134-117 victory over the Utah Jazz behind a game-high 31 points from Curry. The NBA’s all-time leading 3-point shooter added to those stats in the win by hitting 6-of-17 from behind the arc and pushing his season scoring average to 28.8 points per game, the seventh-highest mark in the NBA.
