Curtis Jones pulled no punches in his post-match interview following Liverpool's disastrous 4-1 loss against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Arne Slot's side no doubt would have hoped for a big result against their Dutch opponents, which would have helped them arrest their stuttering form. But, despite controlling possession, they were made to pay for a lack of ruthlessness, as a brace from Couhaib Driouech and goals from Guus Til and Ivan Perisic condemned the Reds to a third consecutive defeat.
It was how Liverpool lost that will concern fans and pundits most of all. They now sit 13th in the table on nine points, just one outside the automatic qualification spots for the last 16, but their performances are well short of what they expect from themselves.

That sentiment was shared by Jones after the game, who gave his thoughts on the squad's performance in a frank interview with RTE. Asked what he thought of the result, the 24-year-old said: "I don't know, I don't have the answers. I'm the same as everybody else. It's just unacceptable to be honest.
"I don't even have the words - I'm past being angry and sad. I'm now at the point where I don't have the words... I'm a player and a fan and I'm seeing it like this where, for a long, long time, I haven't experienced a team playing this bad.
"At the end of the day, we've still got that badge on our chest, so until that badge goes, we're always going to fight and try and get this team back to where it needs to be and show the whole world why Liverpool is the best team in the world. But as of now, we're in the s*** and it needs to change."

In a separate interview with CBS Sports, Jones added: "It starts with just wanting to be a man out there and just wanting to tackle someone and be a dog out there. It's not always the fact that we've got these lads who are nice on the ball and we're just playing, playing, playing. Go and smash someone.
"That comes from me as well, I'm not saying that other lads have to go and do it because I'm in the exact same boat. The lads are looking at me as well and saying, 'Go on then. Go smash someone.' It's got to be on me and the rest of the lads to change this around and not be so nice where teams are coming here and thinking we're going to score two, three, four goals.
"This used to be a place that you hated to come to with the fans and how we played and how we pressed - just absolute dogs. And then we have the ball and then we play whereas now we hardly even play. There are times when we do play, but off the ball stuff - I think that's the stuff that has to change."
Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, then reacted to Jones' comments, saying "He's passionate and obviously hurting right now. I'd love to have seen Mohamed Salah speaking there, but when he's saying, 'we need to put a tackle in, we need to go for the ball', who's stopping you?
"The only thing in football someone can't stop you from doing is running. It might not happen with the ball... Nobody can stop you running, tackling or pressing. So when he's saying that, why aren't you then? Just do it. Don't tell us you're not doing it, or say you'll do it in the next game. Just do it!"

Jones and the Liverpool squad will no doubt want to make a statement on Sunday when they travel to London and face West Ham. And three points are imperative for the Merseyside club.
The Irons currently sit 17th in the league on 11 points, having made a terrible start to the season. Should the current Premier League champions fail to win, pressure on Slot will simply continue to increase.
