Arsenal secured a comfortable 3-1 Champions League win over Bayern Munich at the Emirates on Wednesday night.
Jurrien Timber opened the scoring for the host 22 minutes into the game when the Dutch defender headed in Bukayo Saka’s corner.
Bayern grew into the game after the Gunners’ early dominance and were rewarded with an equaliser 11 minutes after going behind through 17-year-old Lennart Karl, who scored from close range following a first-time pass from Serge Gnabry.
In the 69th minute, Noni Madueke tapped home Calafiori’s low cross at the back post to score his first goal for the Gunners since his summer move from Chelsea.
Gabriel Martinelli sealed the victory for the North Londoners seven minutes later after Eberechi Eze’s long ball over the top found the Brazilian, who rounded Manuel Neuer to hand Bayern their first defeat of the season.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta applauded his team’s performance, labelling them as “exceptional”.
He told [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/arsenal-vs-bayern-munich/547992): “I have to praise our players because I think they had an incredible match against, in my opinion, the best team in Europe.
“Individually, we were immense to resolve all the challenges that this team brings to the table. They know how hard we worked to prepare for every single game.
“We know that the margins are super small. We started the week really well against Spurs, winning here at home.
“Today is another massive victory, but that’s it. Now I’m going to go home and have a nice dinner, and tomorrow morning we’ll start to prepare for Stamford Bridge.
“We’ve certainly been very, very consistent in the competition so far, but it’s just the beginning.
“We are so pleased with what we’ve seen today. Again, the energy that we created in the stadium, what the team transmits, the energy that we bring, and the quality that we play with.
“It’s incredible, and we have to maintain that because it’s still very early.”
Premier League action comes next for the Gunners as they make a short trip across London to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
