Derrick White is the Celtics ‘Name to Know’ Player of the Game in Wednesday’s win over Pistons

BOSTON — The Celtics put together their best win of the season, beating the Pistons 117-114 on Wednesday at TD Garden. Boston shot 46.5% on its 3-pointers as it snapped Detroit’s 13-game win streak.

Derrick White was crucial as he was incredible in the second half, making him Wednesday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.

White finished with 27 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in his 31 minutes. But it was the 3-point shooting that stood out as he made multiple clutch shots down the stretch, shooting 6-for-11 from deep. White also came up with huge defensive plays to boost the Celtics.

White’s endured a shooting slump to open the year, coming into Wednesday’s game knocking down just 30.3% of his 3s. But the win showed that White can catch fire at a moment’s notice. White scored 25 points in the second half, shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 6-for-8 on 3s.

The Celtics and Pistons battled in a tight showdown as the lead flipped between teams all game. The C’s get credit as they beat the Pistons without Neemias Queta. Detroit has dominated teams inside the paint, but Boston had just enough to come away with the win. It helps going 20-for-43 from 3 as eight different Celtics hit at least one from beyond the arc.

The Celtics are now 10-8 on the season, including winning their last two over the Magic and Pistons. They now go on a two-game road trip where they face the Timberwolves on Saturday then the Cavaliers on Sunday.
