After an exciting day in Allen Park, the Detroit Lions announced on Wednesday evening that there are even more reinforcements coming to both sides of the ball.
Detroit activated defensive end Marcus Davenport from injured reserve and activated rookie offensive lineman Miles Frazier from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, capping a litany of transactions that also included making official the return of All-Pro center Frank Ragnow.
Davenport’s return is especially important for a team that has struggled to consistently rush the passer in recent weeks and could use some beef on that side of the defensive line. Davenport has not played since suffering a shoulder injury in Week 2.
Frazier’s activation is intriguing for an interior offensive line that has been without starting left guard Christian Mahogany, though it’s probably unfair to expect him to fill those shoes immediately. Frazier missed all of his rookie training camp, a serious setback for a new player trying to find their way in the league.
One player noticeably absent from the transaction list was defensive end Josh Paschal, who appears to be done for the season. The Lions opened Paschal’s 21-day acclimation window three weeks ago, meaning Wednesday was the deadline to either activate him or shut him down for the season. The turn of events is mildly surprising for Paschal, who had back surgery last spring. After being limited in practice all of last week, he was listed as a full participant on Monday’s estimated practice report.
To help fill the void of injured tight end Brock Wright (neck) and injured wide receiver Kalif Raymond (ankle), the Lions signed tight end Anthony Firkser and wide receiver Tom Kennedy to the active roster from the practice squad.
They also elevated offensive lineman Kingsley Eguakun — presumably to back up Trystan Colon at center after starter Graham Glasgow was ruled out of Thursday’s game against the Green Bay Packers earlier today — and tight end Zach Horton from the practice squad.
