Legendary Barcelona defender talks about Camp Nou renovation – “Should see it in person”

Earlier this month, former Barcelona defender Jordi Alba was asked about Lamine Yamal and the comparisons with Lionel Messi.

Alba was quick to rubbish the comparison, stating that Messi has no rival and is in a league of his own.

Now, the legendary defender talked about Barcelona’s much-awaited return to Spotify Camp Nou.

Speaking to Diario AS, the Inter Miami star was asked whether he felt something special when Barcelona returned to Camp Nou after two and a half years.

Alba talked about the renovations at Camp Nou and admitted he would like to see the stadium in person soon.

“Yes, of course, right? After all, all the matches I played were at Camp Nou. Now they’ve done some renovations, and maybe… I should see it in person, but it will be different, it will look different,” he said.

Regarded as one of the best left-backs to ever play for the club, Alba featured in over 450 competitive appearances for Barcelona before leaving the club in 2023.

The Spaniard, therefore, already knows what it is like to play at a packed Camp Nou. Speaking of which, the veteran defender said the return of the iconic stadium is great news for all Barcelona fans.

“I think it’s good news for all Barcelona fans that we can return to playing at Camp Nou. And now, when I go back there, I’ll be able to go see them and enjoy this new generation,” he concluded.

Alba is currently plying his trade with Inter Miami, where he is teammates with former Barcelona pals Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez.

However, the defender will retire from professional football after the end of the 2025 MLS campaign.
