Report: How Real Madrid hierarchy feel about Xabi Alonso's future amid links to Liverpool

Questions continue to be asked of Arne Slot after Liverpool lost to PSV in the Champions League.

Losing is one thing, but the manner in which the Reds were bested on Wednesday evening is what’s truly concerning.

Slot has been defended by some post-match, and Liverpool were backing the Dutchman prior to the PSV hammering.

Whether that is still the case remains to be seen, but if they do opt to part ways with the Premier League winner, it doesn’t look as though Xabi Alonso will be available to fill the void.

Real Madrid’s stance on Xabi Alonso is positive

It was claimed earlier this week that the Spaniard had lost favour with several Real Madrid players and that Alonso is ready to step up into the Anfield hot seat if Liverpool came calling.

Now, though, reports coming out of Spain have shared an insight into how those in a position of power currently view their manager amid growing speculation around his future.

AS says that the Madrid hierarchy have decided to shut down any talk of Alonso leaving and have made it clear to the players that he is the man in charge.

Crucially, the Madrid stars have been informed that everyone at Real, including the president Florentino Perez, stands behind the former Reds midfielder.

So, even if Slot is sacked, it appears that Liverpool would have to look elsewhere for another coach.

Potential Arne Slot replacements

After losing to Nottingham Forest last weekend, fans called for Oliver Glasner to become manager.

Elsewhere, Liverpool’s stance on hiring Julian Nagelsmann was shared earlier this week.

Those links were viewed as ‘nonsense’ at the time, with the pre-PSV update stating that the Reds were not looking to change their coach then.

Whether that is still the case following the midweek action is not yet known, but further updates are expected to be provided in the coming days.
