Danny Murphy tells Arne Slot when he'll be'in trouble'as Liverpool loses again

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has shared his thoughts on Arne Slot's position following the Reds' latest setback on Wednesday in the Champions League.

The Reds suffered a disappointing 4-1 home defeat to PSV Eindhoven, marking their poorest spell of results since the winter of 1953-54. The Dutch side took an early lead from the penalty spot after Virgil van Dijk was adjudged to have handled the ball unnecessarily.

Dominik Szoboszlai levelled the score, briefly raising hopes of a comeback, but it proved short-lived as the hosts conceded three more goals before the final whistle. The result represents Liverpool's ninth loss in 12 matches, a dreadful sequence for Slot and his players.

This latest setback follows back-to-back heavy defeats, having been beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad and suffering the same scoreline at home to Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Up next is a challenging away fixture at West Ham, before welcoming an in-form Sunderland side the following week.

Murphy, who turned out nearly 250 times for Liverpool during his playing career, believes Slot could be "in trouble" if Liverpool loses against those two teams.

"I think any manager that goes on a run where you're losing constantly, you're always putting yourself in trouble," he told talkSPORT. "Liverpool's form at the moment in the league is relegation form.

"There is only Wolves who have picked up fewer points in the last six games. So, to lose the next two against West Ham and Sunderland, then yeah, of course (he'd be in trouble). Let's hope we don't have to have that conversation.

"I like Slot, especially after meeting him - he's got a bit about him. He's bright, he's warm.

"But it doesn't matter what you've done before or if you're liked. It's irrelevant when you're constantly losing games with Liverpool. So he's got a big, big week ahead of him."

The Reds' recent form has seen them slip to 12th in the Premier League standings, dropping into the bottom half following Everton's victory over Manchester United on Monday.

In continental competition, Wednesday's defeat means they've fallen outside the automatic qualification spots and into 13th place.

Liverpool's next Champions League fixture comes in early December with an away clash against Inter Milan, followed by a challenging trip to Marseille in the new year.

Slot's players will complete the league phase with Qarabag visiting Anfield, but they can't afford to surrender many more points if they're to progress to the knockout stages.
