Arsenal will put a lot of their success this season down to their incredibly good summer transfer window, when they added the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze, who scored a hat-trick against Spurs.

They aren’t expected to make any major January signings, but they could make opportune signings for long-term targets. There is a La Liga wonderkid who the Gunners are reportedly very keen on, but they face competition from rivals.

Arsenal want to sign Elche star Rodrigo Mendoza

According to fresh transfer reports, Arsenal want to sign 20-year-old Spaniard Rodrigo Mendoza, who plays as a centre-midfielder, with more of an attacking focus. He has already become somewhat of a reliable midfielder in la Liga, and has been tipped to make a big move up next.

He’s scored two goals in 10 games so far this season for Elche, and so he’s generated a lot of transfer interest. According to a report by the Telegraph, the 20-year-old has a £17.5m release clause, and has generated interest not just from Arsenal, but also from Real Madrid and Gunners’ title rivals Manchester City.

The midfielder has previously been on the radar of Serie A giants Juventus too, and has become very hot property because he is versatile. Mendoza can play as a box-to-box midfielder, but also a more creative option and goal threat such as the role that Mikel Merino has been playing under Arteta at the Emirates.
