Why did Post Malone create a country album?

Post Malone released a country album in 2024 as a different direction to his typical music. While Malone is known for a variety of music, including rap, pop and R&B, he decided to take on a new challenge and release a country album.

"I've always just tried to make music that’s true to who I am -- no matter," Malone said, via USA Today. "I make what makes me happy, So to be part of something that celebrates artists for doing their own thing and pushing boundaries, that feels really special."

Malone grew up in New York, but his mother was a country music fan so he listened to the genre growing up. Now, Malone says he tends to focus on making music close to his heart.
