Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips is prepared to turn his back on English football in a bid to rescue his career. Phillips is desperate to leave the Etihad in the January transfer window and find a new club.
The England midfielder has endured a nightmare since joining City from Leeds in a £50m deal in 2022. Since the switch, Phillips has started just two league games after falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola.
Phillips has since gone on to have two unsuccessful loans spells with West Ham and Ipswich Town. He returned to City in the summer and was included in Guardiola's squad for the upcoming Premier League season.
But he suffered a serious Achilles injury in pre-season training, which required an operation. He battled back to full fitness, but has made just one appearance this season, in a League Cup win at Huddersfield.
Phillips has become disillusioned with how his career has gone backwards, and believes he needs a fresh challenge in Europe. He will turn 30 next week, and knows he should be performing at his peak, instead of being the forgotten man of the top flight.
Leeds have enquired about re-signing him on-loan, but the Yorkshire club want City to make a significant contribution to his £250,000-a-week wages.
It's understood a deal is unlikely to happen, leaving Phillips little choice but to consider offers from numerous clubs in France, Spain and Germany.
Phillips was a key member of the England team which reached the 2022 Euro final.
But his last international appearance came more than two years ago, and he knows he has no chance of being included in Thomas Tuchel's squad for next summer's World. Cup.
