Arne Slot accused of 'sackable offence' as Jamie Carragher lets rip at Liverpool boss

Jamie Carragher has suggested that Liverpool boss Arne Slot has made a "sackable offence" in persistently selecting Ibrahima Konate in the starting line-up. The French defender found himself under intense scrutiny following a series of mistakes during their humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat to PSV.

Slot subsequently withdrew Konate during the second half, introducing winger Federico Chiesa in an attempt to push for all three points. Watching the match for CBS Sports, Carragher grew increasingly exasperated as he watched and dissected between segments. He criticised Virgil van Dijk for giving away a penalty for the opening goal: "It was handball, his hand went up. What is he doing?"

Then attention turned to Van Dijk's defensive partner. Carragher continued: "What the f*** is going on here? What the absolute... Oh f****** hell, Gakpo. Oh my God, Konate. Oh my God, Konate. Watch Konate, here. Oh my God. I've f****** had enough of them, honest to God, that Konate.

"I mean, that's a sackable offence for the manager, he keeps picking him. He should be sacked for that. Have they scored again, 4-1. What's this, 9 in 12?"

Those comments were made off-air, with Carragher fuming at Slot for picking Konate again during a phone call he made while CBS were broadcasting the match.

Carragher later suggested that Slot's job was not "untenable" just yet but the pressure is ramping up and he instead pointed the finger at senior players.

"Liverpool's not a sacking club," Carragher added while back on air. "Liverpool are different from almost every club in European football, where the manager is the king, the managers get time. Liverpool have never sacked a manager who's won the league. Never, in history. After a few years they've gone, they've resigned.

"I couldn't believe at the weekend that people were talking about the manager's job when I spoke to Liverpool supporters after losing at home to Nottingham Forest. It's only going to amplify now.

"I've always been in the camp of you stick with the manager, because I'm angry with the players, I'm really angry with the players. But it does get to a stage with any manager at any club where I always use this word, untenable, where it almost feels like it can't go on any longer.

"I'm not quite there yet personally, in terms of the manager, but I know a lot of supporters will be.

"This is maybe a snapshot of the future of Liverpool when Mo Salah moves on, Virgil van Dijk moves on, and Alisson moves on.

"The catalyst for Liverpool at the very start of that run was Alisson, Van Dijk and [Mohamed] Salah. Alisson's injured a lot now, so he doesn't play so much. But you're watching Van Dijk now, not the same player, and most Salah looks like his legs have gone."
