From Netherlands: ‘Pure panic’ for Arne Slot – Manager a mess as Liverpool job wobbles

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is now in ‘pure panic’, and it shows on his face, after their latest defeat continued a horrendous run of form.

That’s according to [journalist Valentijn Driessen in De Telegraaf.](https://www.telegraaf.nl/sport/voetbal/valentijn-driessen-bespeurt-pure-paniek-in-ogen-van-arne-slot-hoelang-is-nederlander-nog-de-man-op-de-juiste-plaats-bij-liverpool/108117606.html?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1764238550) He covers Slot today after Liverpool’s 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

That heavy defeat at Anfield continued Liverpool’s dramatic slide from grace this season. They had started the campaign in impressive form but have fallen away in the months since.

Wednesday evening’s defeat to the Dutch side made it three straight defeats by three goals and nine defeats in their last 12. It is their worst run of form in over 70 years. In fact, it is their worst run of form since 1953 to 1954. That’s the same period that preceded their last relegation from the English top flight.

Adding to that misery, they have lost their last three games by three goal margins for the first time since December 1953.

Slot is very much in the spotlight as a result, with many questioning what’s gone wrong. The Dutchman’s tactics, and attempts to change them, have so far fallen flat. And Driessen believes he’s seen an even more worrying sign in the Liverpool manager.

Liverpool manager is at least losing with grace

_“Afterwards, Slot maintained his class; the worthy winner also proved to be a worthy loser,”_ he said.

_“He heaped praise on PSV, made no excuses, refrained from quips, and equally so from jokes, and his match analysis, as always, was conclusive. It was almost a submissive exercise afterward. Yet he realized he had lost control of his team._

_“After the 4-1 defeat, Slot remained silent on two important questions. How could this happen to his squad with all its stars, and how could he turn the tide at Liverpool? Decisive questions for the decision-makers at Anfield Road.._

_“A bit like how everyone is getting to know Slot now. But one day Slot will have to provide conclusive answers to Liverpool’s American owners and management. How will he stop this decline? Because if Slot doesn’t manage this in the short term, he might no longer be the right man in the right place at Liverpool._

_“Observing Slot after the decisive loss against PSV doesn’t bode well. Aside from disbelief and helplessness, after the final whistle, for the first time in Slot’s managerial career, you saw pure panic in his eyes._

_“Although Slot had recovered fifteen minutes later in front of the cameras, what remained after this historic PSV evening was the panic in the eyes of Liverpool’s 47-year-old Dutch star manager.”_
